Safia Elhillo is a poet from Washington D.C. and an alum of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a concentration in “Poetry as a Tool for Therapy” and a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. She is currently an MFA candidate in poetry at The New School. She wrote The Life and Times of Susie Knuckles, published by Well&Often Press and is a Cave Canem fellow. Elhillo has performed at The Kennedy Center, The New Amsterdam Theater on Broadway, and has shared the stage with Sonia Sanchez, Faith Evans, The Last Poets, and other artists. She is the founding member of Slam NYU, the 2012 and 2013 national championship team. She appears on season three of TV One’s Verses and Flow.
