Patricia Spears Jones is a poet and playwright, born and raised in Arkansas. As a graduate from Rhodes College, she went on to receive her MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. She was named one of “40 Poets They Love” by essence.com in 2012. Her work is widely anthologized. Jones is the editor and contributor to the blog project: Thirty Days Hath September: Another Kind of Noise (2012); Think: Poems for Aretha Franklin’s Inauguration Day Hat (2009) and various other projects. Jones is actively involved in many organizations with progressive politics, feminism, social justice, and the environment. Her accomplishments include an appointment as senior fellow for the Black Earth Institute, awards from the Foundation for Contemporary Art and the New York Community Trust, and other residencies. She has been a resident of New York for over 30 years and has taught at LaGuardia Community College and Queens College CCNY, Parsons, The New School, and the College of New Rochelle. She currently lives in Brooklyn New York.
