Ishion Hutchinson was born in Port Antonio, Jamaica. He earned his BA at the University of the West Indies, an MFA at New York University, and a PhD at the University of Utah. His first poetry collection published in 2010, Far District, won the PEN/Joyce Osterweil Award. In addition to this, he has won a Whiting Writers’ Award and the Academy of American Poets’ Larry Levis Prize and the Glenna Luschei Award from Prairie Schooner Journal. Hutchinson’s work has appeared in several journals and anthologies such as Poetry, The Common, Gulf Coast, The Huffington Post, Granta, Poetry Review (UK), Ploughshares, and more. He is a Pirogue Fellow, and teaches at Cornell University.
