Duriel Harris has earned degrees from Yale University and NYU, and a PhD from the University of Illinois. She is the founder of the avant garde poetry performance trio, The Black Took Collective and poetry editor for Obsidian: Literature in the African Diaspora. She has received grants from the Illinois Arts Council, the Cave Canem foundation, and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, and has been a MacDowell and Millay Colony fellow. Her work has appeared in numerous venues including The &Now Awards, Ploughshares, Troubling the Line, Mandorla, and The Best of Fence. She currently teaches creative writing, literature and poetics at the University of Illinois.
