Chirs Abani is originally from Nigeria and often writes about his experience being raised there.  He holds an MA in English and a PhD in Literature and Creative writing (University of Southern California).  Abani is currently a professor at the University of California, Riverside.  He is the recipient of many awards and recognitions including the PEN USA Freedom-to-Write Award, a Guggenheim Award and many more. His poetry collections include Sanctificum (2010), There Are No Names for Red (2010), Feed Me The Sun - Collected Long Poems (2010) Hands Washing Water (2006), Dog Woman (2004), Daphne’s Lot (2003), and Kalakuta Republic (2001).
