Miller has served the arts community in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 40 years as an educator, editor, writer, publisher, television programmer and producer. He taught English for 21 years at Laney College in Oakland, California where he helped to create Good News, a community and faculty journal of art and culture. He continued to teach at UC Berkeley until 1991. In the 1960’s, he helped to create Aldridge Players West, a black drama group in San Francisco. He also created Mina Press and has worked with San Francisco Bay Area public television and radio for over 30 years, creating programs based on Norwegian arts and cultures, women’s labor history, and more. He is the author of The Sky Is A Page, New and Selected Poems. He was awarded the Berkeley Poetry Festival Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011 and the PEN Oakland Josephine Nimes National Literary Award for Lifetime Achievement.
